Svaritang - forged steel tongue drum

Steel drum Svaritang from the workshop of Svaritanum.

This tool belongs to the family of steel tongue drums. The hemispheres are knocked out of the sheet by cold forging, using special tools. Then they undergo grinding and heat treatment. Then, the tongues are cut and adjusted. The last step is fine tuning and finishing polishing. This instrument is tuned in D minor, Bass note - Re. The drum has a deep, rich sound, more like a hangdrum sound, rather than a steel drum  from a gas balloon. Steel has a beautiful texture, which is left on the surface of the tool.
